What is Asic

Asic is a narcotic-like pain reliever.
Asic is used to Asic moderate to severe pain.
The extended-release form of this medicine is for around-the-clock treatment of pain. This form of Asic is not for use on an as-needed basis for pain.
Asic may also be used for purposes not listed in Asic guide.

Asic side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have:

• seizure ;
• weak or shallow breathing;
• high levels of serotonin in the body--agitation, hallucinations, fever, fast heart rate, overactive reflexes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of coordination, fainting; or
• severe skin reaction--fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.

Common side effects may include:

• headache, dizziness, drowsiness, tired feeling;
• constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain; or
• feeling nervous or anxious.
• itching, sweating, flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).

Asic dosing

Usual Adult Dose for Pain:

For mild to moderate severe chronic pain not requiring rapid onset of analgesic effect:
Initial dose: 25 mg every morning
Titration: increase in 25 mg increments as separate doses every 3 days to reach 100 mg per day taken as 25 mg 4 times per day. Then the total daily dose may be increased by 50 mg as tolerated every 3 days to reach 200 mg per day taken as 50 mg 4 times per day.
Maintenance: After titration, Asic 50 mg to 100 mg can be administered as needed for pain relief every 4 to 6 hours not to exceed 400 mg per day.
For the management of moderate to moderately severe chronic pain in adults who require around-the-clock treatment of their pain for an extended period of time:
Extended-Release Tablets:
Initial Dose: 100 mg once daily and titrated up as necessary by 100 mg increments every five days to relief of pain and depending upon tolerability.
Maximum Dose: Extended-release tablets should not be administered at a dose exceeding 300 mg per day.
For patients in whom rapid onset of analgesic effect is required and for whom the benefits outweigh the risk of discontinuation due to adverse events associated with higher initial dose:
Dose: 50 mg to 100 mg can be administered as needed for pain relief every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 400 mg per day.
Asic Extended-Release :
Patients not currently treated with Asic immediate-release:
Initial dose: 100 mg once daily and titrated up as necessary by 100 mg increments every 5 days to relief of pain and individualized according to patient need and tolerability.
Maximum dose: 300 mg per day
Patients currently on Asic IR:
Calculate the 24-hour Asic IR dose:
Initial dose: Round down to the next lowest 100 mg increment. The dose may subsequently be individualized according to patient need and tolerability.
Maximum dose: 300 mg per day
Due to limitations in flexibility of dose selection with Asic ER, some patients maintained
on Asic IR products may not be able to convert.

Usual Geriatric Dose for Pain:

For patients over 65 years:
Dose selection should be cautious, usually starting at the low end of the dosing range, reflecting the greater frequency of decreased hepatic, renal, or cardiac function and of concomitant disease or other drug therapy.
For patients over 75 years:
Maximum dose of regular oral tablets: 300 mg per day in divided doses

Usual Pediatric Dose for Pain:

4 to 16 years:
Immediate release formulations: 1 to 2 mg/kg/dose every 4 to 6 hours
Maximum single dose: 100 mg
Maximum total daily dose is the lesser of: 8 mg/kg/day or 400 mg/day
16 years and older:
Initial dose: 50 to 100 mg every 4 to 6 hours
Maximum dose: 400 mg/day
Alternatively, for patients not requiring a rapid onset of effect, side effects may be decreased by initiating dosage at 25 mg/day and increasing by 25 mg every 3 days up to 25 mg 4 times a day. Dosage may then be increased by 50 mg every 3 days as tolerated to 50 mg 4 times a day.
16 years and older:
Oral disintegrating tablet :
Initial: 50 to 100 mg every 4 to 6 hours
Maximum: 400 mg/day
Alternatively, for patients not requiring a rapid onset of effect, side effects may be decreased by initiating dosage at 50 mg/day and increasing by 50 mg every 3 days up to 50 mg 4 times a day.
Maximum: 400 mg/day
16 years and older:
Extended-release formulations:
Initial: 100 mg once daily
Titrate by 100 mg increments every 2 to 3 days if needed for pain control
Maximum: 300 mg/day

Can Asic be stopped immediately or do I have to stop the consumption gradually to ween off?

In some cases, it always advisable to stop the intake of some medicines gradually because of the rebound effect of the medicine.

Who should not take Asic?

You should not take Asic if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

• severe asthma or breathing problems;

• a blockage in your stomach or intestines;

• if you have recently used alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, or narcotic medications.

Seizures have occurred in some people taking Asic. Talk with your doctor about your seizure risk, which may be higher if you have:

• a history of head injury, epilepsy or other seizure disorder;

• a history of drug or alcohol addiction;

• a metabolic disorder; or

• if you are also using certain medicines to Asic migraine headaches, muscle spasms, depression, mental illness, or nausea and vomiting.

To make sure Asic is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

• liver or kidney disease;

• a stomach disorder; or

• a history of drug abuse, alcohol addiction, mental illness, or suicide attempt.

Asic is more likely to cause breathing problems in older adults and people who are severely ill, malnourished, or otherwise debilitated.

FDA pregnancy category C. It is not known whether Asic will harm an unborn baby. Asic may cause breathing problems, behavior changes, or life-threatening addiction and withdrawal symptoms in your newborn if you use the medication during pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant.

Asic can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are taking Asic.

Do not give this medication to anyone younger than 16 years old without the advice of a doctor. Asic ER should not be given to anyone younger than 18 years old.

Asic may contain phenylalanine. Talk to your doctor before using this form of Asic if you have phenylketonuria.

How should I take Asic?

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Asic can slow or stop your breathing, especially when you start using this medicine or whenever your dose is changed. Never take Asic in larger amounts, or for longer than prescribed. Tell your doctor if the medicine seems to stop working as well in relieving your pain.

Asic may be habit-forming, even at regular doses. Never share this medicine with another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction. MISUSE OF PAIN MEDICATION CAN CAUSE ADDICTION, OVERDOSE, OR DEATH, especially in a child or other person using the medicine without a prescription. Selling or giving away Asic is against the law.

Stop taking all other around-the-clock narcotic pain medications when you start taking Asic.

Asic can be taken with or without food, but take it the same way each time.

Do not crush, break, or open an extended-release tablet or capsule (ConZip, Ryzolt, Asic ER). Swallow it whole to avoid exposure to a potentially fatal dose.

Never crush or break a Asic pill to inhale the powder or mix it into a liquid to inject the drug into your vein. This practice has resulted in death with the misuse of Asic and similar prescription drugs.

To take Asic orally disintegrating tablets (Rybix ODT):

• Keep the tablet in its blister pack until you are ready to take it. Use dry hands to remove the tablet and place it in your mouth.

• Do not swallow the tablet whole. Allow it to dissolve in your mouth without chewing. If desired, you may drink liquid to help swallow the dissolved tablet.

If you use the Asic extended-release tablet, the tablet shell may pass into your stools (bowel movements). This is normal and does not mean that you are not receiving enough of the medicine.

Do not stop using Asic suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to safely stop using Asic.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Keep track of the amount of medicine used from each new bottle. Asic is a drug of abuse and you should be aware if anyone is using your medicine improperly or without a prescription.

What other drugs will affect Asic?

Taking this medicine with other drugs that make you sleepy or slow your breathing can cause dangerous or life-threatening side effects. Ask your doctor before taking Asic with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.

Many drugs can interact with Asic, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Not all possible interactions are listed here. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.

Can Asic be taken or consumed while pregnant?
